The most remote workshop on Earth?

Deep in the Australian outback, it's 1,500 miles from Perth, 50 miles from its nearest neighbour. It's the highest town above sea level in Western Australia. It's the most affluent non-metropolitan region in Australia (thanks to its iron ore mine).

The town of Tom Price is a place of superlatives and is a truly extraordinary place. In April, we ran three days of Forensic Science workshops for a holiday club in Tom Price. We rose to the challenge, flying a facilitator and all the equipment from Sydney via Perth to Paraburdoo then taking a 50 mile drive through the red dust to Tom Price.

Children from five to thirteen years worked together to solve a mystery, analysing fingerprint, footprint, hair, fibre and ink samples. On the second day, the children carried out a series of challenging experiments incorporating elements of science, problem solving and teamwork.

The children involved in the clubs all loved the activities. Chelsea Hardy of the Shire of Ashburton said "I'm so impressed with your professional approach and fun, inclusive activities". In fact, she was so pleased she booked Education Group for another twenty days in October.

This is one of over 100 workshops, or 'incursions', as they're known in Australia, that we've booked since February this year. Our new Australian branch of Education Group, EG Incursions, has taken off in a big way and we're very proud of our success.

We've established bases in Melbourne, Perth, Sydney and Brisbane. Within four months we're able to deliver 'incursions' in Indonesian Gamelan, Chinese dragon dance, Indian dance, African drumming and African mask making as well as Forensic Science.
